The Local Market, located on Broad Street in Falls Church, is simple, unique and rather cozy. It's almost hidden in between Paisaino's pizzeria and an antique store and if you're not careful you'll miss it.
As the name suggests, everything in the store is local. It offers a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits, cheeses, meats, homemade pastas, fresh breads, yogurts, dips and my favorite: chocolate. They also have a wide range of gluten-free and organic products.
They carry an Arlington, Virginia-based chocolate company that simply makes the best sweets. My favorite is the sea salt dark chocolate bars. While the bars are a little pricey--close to $6--it's totally worth it.
There are only a half dozen or so ingredients and it includes names you can pronounce. It really does make a difference when you eat something that doesn't contain extra additives and "junk" vs. natural ingredients.
The employees are super friendly and easy to talk with as well. They are helpful in answering questions about how to cook certain meats or vegetables and feel like more of a friend or neighbor than a grocery store attendant.
So the next time you happen to be passing through Falls Church or if you work in the area, be sure to stop by The Local Market. It's a wonderful experience that will make you want to visit again and again. And with the food so good and fresh, you'll want to keep supporting them.
